Make the most of Mardi Gras with these 14 events

You don’t have to be in New Orleans to celebrate the South’s boozy, beaded holiday.

Mardi Gras Drag Night at Captain Gregory’s 
Feb. 8, 6:15 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.
Before the Mardi Gras festivities begin, enjoy a two-course dinner, drinks and drag performances of Adele, Tina Turner, Amy Winehouse and Beyonce for $85 per person. // 804 N. Henry St., Alexandria

Mardi Gras Party at Tysons Biergarten
Feb. 9, 9 p.m.-2 a.m.
Bring your masks, feather boas and wigs, but don’t worry about bringing beads to this free event featuring live music. Find 18 German and Belgium biers on tap, cans and bottles of local and national beers, more than 60 kinds of whiskey, pretzels, sausages and games like Jenga and cornhole. Samedi Gras at Breaux Vineyards
Feb. 10, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Wine will accompany beads, masks, king cake, dancing, music from the VooDoo Blues and a costume contest at this Saturday celebration that costs $20 for non-members and $15 for club members. // 36888 Breaux Vineyards Lane, Purcellville

Mardi Gras Carnival
Feb. 10, 2-6 p.m.

Mardi Gras Celebration at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church
Feb. 10, 6-10 p.m.
Don your best green, purple and yellow—or a costume, if your heart desires—to this cake, masks, beads and gumbo-filled party. Tickets cost $10 for seniors, $45 for families and $15 for all other individuals. // 6420 Linway Terrace, McLean

2nd Annual Mardi Gras Parade in Falls Church
Feb. 11, 5-6 p.m.
Floats accompanied by live music and of course beads will make their way down Park Avenue from Little Falls to Clare and Don’s Beach Shack, where the party will continue. // Park Avenue, Falls Church

Mardi Gras Specials at Requin Oysters and Champagne
Feb. 12-17
Southern staples like po’ boys, King Cake and crawfish will be available at this French-influenced restaurant. // Isabella Eatery: 2001 International Drive, McLean

Mardi Gras at William Jeffrey’s Tavern
Feb. 13, 6:30 -10 p.m.
Enjoy jambalaya, gumbo, po’ boys and boozy sips with names like “hurricane” and “cyclone” while listening to a Grammy-nominated brass band called the Michael Thomas Quartet. // 201 Columbia Pike Suite 101, Arlington

Fat Tuesday with The Rogue Johnson Quartet
Feb. 13, 7-10 p.m.
At Ragtime, feast on Southern favorites and find Sazeracs + Abita Brewing’s Mardi Gras Bock on tap. // 1345 N. Courthouse Road, Arlington

Mardi Gras with the Capital Focus Jazz Band
Feb. 13
At this all-day affair, find offerings of Louisiana’s traditional food and drink, supplemented by a live music performance from 6:30-10 p.m. // Dogwood Tavern: 132 West Broad St., Falls Church

Mardi Gras at the Wharf
Feb. 13, 6-8 p.m.
Beginning with a parade spanning Wharf Street from Seventh Street to District Pier and ending with a fireworks show, this event will also include balloons, beads, food, drink (beer for those 21 and up) and a District Pier dance party. // The Wharf: 690 Water St., Washington, D.C. 

Mardi Gras Extravaganza
Feb. 13, 6-10 p.m.
Benefiting DC Central Kitchen, which helps equip unemployed individuals with the skills they need for careers in the food industry, this event unites more than 20 of the area’s Southern-inspired restaurants—Arlington’s Bayou Bakery among them—for an all-you-can-eat-and-drink event with live music and performances. Clarendon Courthouse Mardi Gras Parade
Feb. 13, 7 p.m.
In the past, the Clarendon Alliance has held a parade, ball and Jester Jaunt, but due to a parade at The Wharf and the above-mentioned Union Market event, the Clarendon Alliance board has decided to only offer the parade this year. Those interested can register here to participate in the parade or simply buy Mardi Gras beads. // Along Wilson Boulevard from N. Barton Street to N. Irving Street

Singleton Enterprises’ Mardi Gras Soiree
Feb. 17, 7-11 p.m.
Dance along to a DJ, eat, drink and compete in the best-dressed costume and King and Queen contests. Parties of eight that reserve a table in advance ($400) will get a complimentary bottle of champagne. A pair of tickets is $80, with single general admission at $50. // Fredericksburg Hospitality House and Conference Center Ballroom: 2801 Plank Road, Fredericksburg
