Where to go this week: Threshold Closing Reception at Olly Olly

Think about the last time you waited on tenterhooks—a long-awaited rendezvous with a paramour, or the tense weeks leading up to your planned resignation; sitting by yourself in international departures wondering what tomorrow will bring, or the final weeks as your baby twists and turns in utero. Waiting on this threshold seems to slow time’s passage, and the tension, the longing, the fluttering nervousness builds.
This dreamlike state inspired Olly Olly owner and curator Jessica Kallista‘s latest exhibit, “Threshold,” at her alternative art space in Old Town Fairfax. Thursday marks the closing reception for “Threshold.”
Kallista says the 10 artists in this exhibit created sculpture, illustrations, paintings and prints to represent “the dreamlike state you find yourself [in] as you anxiously await to awaken into the next phase of your life.”
The exhibit’s artists are based in Northern Virginia, Maryland or D.C. One of Kallista’s passions is creating a welcoming space to introduce nascent art lovers, veteran art connoisseurs and local artists to take part in Olly Olly’s exhibits as spectators or participants. “Threshold” is Olly Olly’s fourth exhibit in 2015, and Nov. 28 marks the opening of the next show, entitled “Baby Canvases.” All “Threshold” pieces not yet sold are priced for all types of collectors.
