Here’s Where to Buy Holiday Gifts for the Teachers in Your Life

Go beyond gift cards with a special gift from one of these small businesses.

By Haley Huchler December 8, 2023 at 1:02 pm

The holiday season brings us opportunities to show the hardest workers in our lives how much we appreciate them. For many students and their parents, this means finding the perfect gift for their favorite teacher. Shopping at small local businesses is a great way to find special and meaningful gifts that teachers haven’t already received year after year (coffee mugs, we’re looking at you). Check out these local stores to support both small businesses and educators this holiday season.

A-Touch Gift Shop

Almost nothing shows appreciation more than a beautiful display of flowers, and a floral arrangement is a lovely gift that won’t add too much clutter to the home or classroom. The Eternal Trio is a small and chic arrangement that will fit perfectly on a teacher’s desk. The preserved roses are made to last, so this bouquet will brighten up any space for years to come. 101 E. Holly Ave., Ste. 14, Sterling

Scrawl Books

It’s no surprise that many teachers are also notorious book lovers. Pick up a new bestseller at a local independent bookstore like Scrawl Books, which supports teachers by offering educator discounts and soliciting donations to purchase books for teachers who may be using their own funds for classroom supplies. Browse the “Read Local” and “Great Gifts” section online to find interesting new picks to gift, or shop in person and ask staff to recommend you a book for the teachers you know. 11911 Freedom Dr., Reston

Elden Street Tea Shop

Every teacher needs a soothing hot drink to bring to school in their favorite tumbler. While coffee might be the usual go-to, there’s something luxurious about brewing a homemade tea. At Elden Street Tea Shop, you’ll find a wide variety of teas to suit every teacher’s taste. To go the classic route, pick up a bag of Organic Ceylon, a black tea with hints of floral, or Lady Grey, a blend of lavender and decaffeinated Earl Grey. For something fruity and fun, try the Candy Ginger Peach Rooibos or a Citrus Lemon Green. Whatever delightful creation you choose to give, it’ll be sure to invigorate and refresh any school morning. 714 Pine St., Herndon

Scout & Molly’s Boutique

For the teacher who likes to show up to school in style, check out the clothing and accessories at Scout and Molly’s Boutique. The locations in Ashburn, Reston, and Fairfax have a selection of stylish clothes and vibrant accessories. A statement necklace or chic bag might be just the thing to bring a little extra glamour to your favorite teacher’s wardrobe. Multiple locations

Covet

Covet is an independent gift shop with a carefully curated collection of products from makers and artisans across the country. There’s a little something for everyone, but teachers might particularly enjoy the selection of stationery products, such as notepads, journals, and pens. For an art teacher, check out a paint by numbers kit or a print by a local artist. And if all else fails, Covet’s ornaments are sure to please. 5140 Wilson Blvd., Arlington

Brick & Mortar Mercantile

This Leesburg shop offers an extensive selection of clothing, accessories, and gifts, including quotable coasters for a teacher’s desk, tote bags to carry their endless supplies, and cute décor to liven up the home or the classroom. The fun socks and creative candles also make great small gifts to pair with a gift card to your teacher’s favorite coffee shop or bookstore. 34 S. King St., Leesburg
