Elizabeth Thorp, editor-in-chief of the for-women comedy site PYPO and head of family travel blog Poshbrood, has much to write about, often from a coffee shop or her local WeWork (pictured below). With a background in public relations, political consulting, tons of writing and a brief role on House of Cards, the Bethesda resident was made for the D.C. area.
Dining
Pepita Cantina (Wilson Boulevard near where Thorp once lived). They have the best lunch taco specials; real, authentic queso; good margaritas. Bayou Bakery (Courthouse) not only for the coffee but they have great food. Northside Social—you can just kind of camp out, stay caffeinated.
Favorite Travel
We have a little log cabin in Maine, in Boothbay Harbor, so we go there most of August. For families, Turks and Caicos is amazing. The water is like a bathtub, and it’s crystal clear, no currents. The people are so friendly. We love Snowmass, Colorado, for skiing. It’s like Aspen’s sister city but chill. It’s got such a great mountain for kids and a lot of different lodging options.
Life Motto
I choose to be happy.
Spotify Playlist
Anything Sting or The Police. Justin Bieber’s new album. I’m like a 12-year-old girl. U2, Coldplay, Janelle Monáe, Maroon 5.
Online Shopping
Farfetch. I also go to The Outnet, Net-a-Porter’s sale website. I’m a Gilt Groupe junkie. UrbanStems. One Kings Lane.
Acting
Last season, I had a small part in House of Cards. I was female delegate from Illinois. I got headshots—a great photographer in Northern Virginia, Tim Coburn. I love it; it’s just a riot. I just decided to pretend in my head that I was somebody who pretended to be other people for a living.
Beauty
Moisturizer: M-61 Hydraboost Moisturizer. And I even use their hand cream, too.
Lip balm: YSL Rose Volupte Shine in color 9, Nude in Private. It looks good on everyone.
Anti-aging: Doctor Gross’s mini-facial towelette that also has a self-tanner in it. Every woman of a certain age should be slathering their body with Retin-A—it’s a miracle cream.
Camping or Glamping?
I’m probably better suited to glamping. But that’s not exactly true because you can camp on Assateague Island in a tent, and as long as I have some provisions like a blow-up mattress, pillow and wine, I’m OK.
