Jewelry designer Sophie Blake creates timely treasures, drawing from the past while crafting the future.

Sophie Blake is no stranger to facing the odds and winning. At the start of her career, the emerging designer took a chance to secure a coveted spot selling her collection in Henri Bendel, waiting at 6 a.m. in line with over 500 other hopefuls. “You literally have five minutes to make a pitch and convince the buyers to invite you into the store to sell or do a trunk show,” Blake recalls. “They said [the collection] was very current, contemporary and fresh and they invited me to have my very first trunk show there.”
While it is important to maintain a modern appeal, Blake is known for incorporating 1920s art-deco elements into all of her pieces. “Everything that was created back then transcended time, and that’s what I want to do,” she states. These signature vintage and geometric elements are carried into her spring 2014 collection Oasis, which also includes greens and golds to reflect “lushness, new beginning and hope.”
Having already found success with publications like Vogue Italia and superblogger Leandra Medine of The Man Repeller, it takes a strong mix of courage and confidence to risk moving a burgeoning brand from New York City to a seemingly less fashion-focused area in the name of love. But, as we spoke with the newlywed in her recently renovated Mosaic District townhome, she boldly states that it is “one of the best decisions that she has ever made.” Given her already popular status, we are sure that she will continue to find success and reach her goal of becoming a household name. —Angela Bobo
