Expect Lane Closures on I-395 This Weekend

Traffic will be impacted in the Springfield area.

By Maggie Roth February 27, 2026 at 10:28 am

Travelers in the Springfield area could experience some delays this weekend. The Virginia Department of Transportation is planning lane closures on I-395 between Friday, February 27, and Sunday, March 1, for bridge work.

The closures will impact northbound and southbound general I-395 lanes and 395 express lanes at Edsall Road (Route 648/Exit 2).

Anticipated 1-395 lane closures include:

  • Southbound I-395 general purpose left lane: 10 p.m. Friday, February 27, to 3 p.m. Saturday, February 28.
  • Southbound 395 express lanes right lane: 10 p.m. Friday, February 27, to 2 p.m. Saturday, February 28 (the 395 express lanes will then be completely closed from 2 p.m. to about 3 p.m. Saturday, February 28, for the regularly scheduled reversal from southbound to northbound operations; road work is expected to be cleared by the time reversal is complete).
  • Northbound I-395 general purpose left lane: 10 p.m. Saturday, February 28, to 11 a.m. Sunday, March 1.
  • Northbound 395 express lanes right lane: 10 p.m. Saturday, February 28, to 11 a.m. Sunday, March 1.

VDOT reminds drivers to use caution while traveling in work zones.
