An Ohio driver was reportedly speeding at more than 100 mph when he caused a crash on the Beltway on Christmas. The crash killed Annandale High School student Annie Vu, 15, and her grandmother, Su Nguyen, 75.
Devin Juliana, a 48-year-old from Steubenville, Ohio, has been charged with reckless driving, NBC4 reported. Additional charges are possible, pending approval by the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney.
The Vu family was driving home from a Christmas dinner when Juliana’s pickup truck struck their minivan. All six minivan passengers were injured. According to a family GoFundMe page, 12-year-old Andy Vu “sustained serious brain injuries and will require ongoing care.”
According to police, Duy Cao was driving the family in a Toyota Sienna on eastbound I-495 near mile marker 49 in Fairfax County at the time of the crash. She was in the center lanes when Juliana’s Dodge Ram truck crashed into the minivan.
“The investigation shows the Ram was traveling at speeds in excess of 100 miles-per-hour,” a statement from police said. The impact of the crash crushed the minivan’s rear interior compartment and pushed the vehicle into the express lanes, police said.
Juliana and a 43-year-old female passenger were also taken to a hospital.
