Real estate investment and development firm Penzance has begun work on a 45-megawatt data center in Chantilly. Amazon Web Services, a subsidiary of Amazon that provides cloud computing platforms, will lease the space at 4151 Auto Park Circle.
The 240,000-square-foot data center is expected to open in the first half of 2027, Penzance said in a news release. The company announced in October that it received $100 million in construction financing to complete the project.
This project will include high-efficiency air-cooled systems, rooftop HVAC units, and “acoustically enclosed generators to limit operational noise and vibration.” The campus will include 67 acres of public-use green space, plus EV car charging stations and sustainable building practices like low-impact stormwater techniques.
Victor Hoskins, president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, said in a release that this project “strengthens Fairfax County’s position as one of the most competitive tech hubs in the world.”
“It creates the capacity needed for AI model development, quantum research, autonomous systems, secure cloud operations, and the advanced industries that will define the next generation of innovation,” Hoskins said.
Just across Route 50, Amazon Web Services also operates a cluster of three data centers called the Virginia Mallory Campus.
