2 Northern Virginia Metro Stations Are Closed this Month

Reagan National Airport will be the last stop on the Blue Line through July 26.

By Maggie Roth July 7, 2025 at 10:43 am

Commuters, be aware that a stretch of the Metro on the Blue Line is closed for repairs. Through July 26, the Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street stations will remain closed for construction.

The closure will make the Reagan National Airport Metro station the final stop on the Blue Line. During construction, free local and express shuttle buses from the closed stations will replace the train service.

Local shuttle service between Franconia-Springfield to Van Dorn Street to Eisenhower Avenue to King Street-Old Town (on the Yellow Line) will be available every eight to 10 minutes. Express shuttle service between Franconia-Springfield and Pentagon will also be available every eight to 10 minutes.

There will also be free parking at the affected stations during the closures.

Construction crews are working on several upgrades, including to the train control system, the rails, and the lighting. Metro said in a news release that annual construction work “keeps the Metrorail system in a state of good repair, preventing problems before they disrupt service.”

During the weekends of July 12 through 13 and July 19 through 20, Metro will operate on single tracking on the Yellow Line from Huntington to Braddock Road. On August 2 through 31, the construction will move to the end of the Green Line. During that period, the Naylor Road., Suitland, and Branch Avenue Stations will be closed.
