It’s primary time once again in Virginia. And although this year the races are relatively thin on the ground in Northern Virginia, here’s what you need to know.
Key Dates
Primary Day is June 17. Early voting has been going on since last month and ends June 14.
If you haven’t registered to vote yet, the deadline has passed. Similarly, if you haven’t applied for a mail-in ballot yet, you’ll have to vote in person, either early or on Primary Day.
Where Can I Vote?
You can vote at any early voting location in your county before June 14. After that, vote on Primary Day at your precinct, which you can find on the Virginia Department of Elections page.
Who’s on the Ballot?
Statewide offices
There aren’t any primaries for the governor’s race in Virginia; Democratic former congresswoman Abigail Spanberger and Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears will face off in November.
There are only Democratic primaries for the other statewide offices up for election this year. You’ll find these names on your ballot no matter where you live:
Lieutenant Governor

- Incumbent Jason Miyares will be the Republican candidate in November.
