Wawa Is Looking to Make Moves in Northern Virginia

Wawa is considering adding locations in Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun counties.

Gas station and convenience food chain Wawa could open around 20 more stores in Northern Virginia, Washington Business Journal reports. The company has retained Rappaport, a McLean-based commercial real estate firm, to scout out possible NoVA locations.

Wawa is looking at potential sites in Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun counties. WBJ reports that Rappaport is marketing Wawa’s interest to prospective property owners with available locations that meet specific search criteria.

These includes spots in the cities of Alexandria and Fairfax, Pat O’Meara, executive director of brokerage at Rappaport, told WBJ. “We’re now at a point where we’re ready to start rolling,” O’Meara said.

There are currently eight Wawa stores in Prince William County, one in Vienna, one in Fairfax City, and two in Loudoun. Wawa is considering expanding to Reston, Tysons, and Springfield, as well as Culpeper and Fauquier. It’s not likely to expand to urban locations like Rosslyn or Crystal City, especially where a combination convenience store and gas station isn’t possible, O’Meara told WSJ.

Wawas offer gas pumps and charging stations for electric vehicles. The convenience stores sell a variety of grab-and-go snacks. It also offers baked goods, and freshly made breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, like salads, sandwiches, wraps, and burritos. Specialty beverages include iced coffees, fruit smoothies, milkshakes, and iced energy drinks.
