Olympic champion Noah Lyles returns to Alexandria this weekend, where a rally will be waiting at his former high school to welcome him back.
Lyles, a graduate of T.C. Williams High School (now Alexandria City High School), made headlines at the Paris Olympics for his close win in the 100-meter dash, which earned him the title of Fastest Man Alive, and his bronze-medal win in the 200-meter race, which he ran despite testing positive for COVID-19 that morning.
The “hometown hero” will appear at a rally at Alexandria City High School on Sunday, September 22, hosted by the City of Alexandria, Alexandria City Public Schools, and The Lyles Brothers Sports Foundation. The celebration runs from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and will include an outdoor rally featuring the high school band and cheerleaders.
In addition to Lyles, special guests such as Rep. Don Beyer, Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson, and ACPS Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt are expected at the event.
In addition to the rally, The Lyles Brothers Sports Foundation will hold a coat drive to collect new or gently used winter coats for Alexandrians in need.
The event is in the Alexandria City High School gymnasium at 3330 King St., adjacent to the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center. Parking is available at ACHS’s garage, with overflow parking at the First Baptist Church of Alexandria.
Attendance is free, but organizers ask attendees to RSVP online.
