These NoVA Athletes Are Bringing a Medal Home From Tokyo

Our hometown competitors are returning with medals of all colors after competing in the 2020 Summer Olympics.

After two grueling weeks of competition and plenty of surprises, upsets, and world records, the 2020 Summer Olympics has finally come to an end. As the athletes return home and turn their attention toward Paris 2024, here is how the NoVA competitors fared in the US medal count.

Gold medal

Ariel Atkins

Women’s Basketball
This Olympic rookie made the Mystics and her country proud by netting her first gold medal and the United States’ seventh-consecutive medal.

Tina Charles

Women’s Basketball
The Mystics’ Center continued to dominate the international field, scooping up her third Olympic gold medal in as many competitions.

Keldon Johnson

Men’s Basketball
Calling Sterling home, the 21-year-old joined Team USA to help the team win their fourth consecutive gold medal at the Olympics.

Silver medal

Torri Huske

Swimming
The Arlington native is being welcomed home to open arms after winning a silver medal in the women’s 4×100-meter medley relay.

Lucas Kozeniesky

Rifle Shooting
This Robinson Secondary School grad joined forces with Florida’s Mary Tucker to grab second place at the inaugural 10-meter air rifle mixed team at the Olympics.

Bronze medal

Noah Lyles

Track & Field
The Alexandria native stunned in his first Olympic competition, securing the bronze medal in the 200-meter final with a time of 19.74 seconds.

Kelley O’Hara

Women’s Soccer
The Spirit defender is bringing home her second medal in three Olympic bouts after the USWNT defeated Australia in the bronze medal match.

Emily Sonnett

Women’s Soccer
In her first Olympic games, the UVA alum joins Spirit teammate O’Hara in bringing back a bronze medal for Team USA.
