As of Tuesday morning, Virginia had 37,727 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 4,269 people hospitalized, 1,208 deaths and 256,913 people tested. Fairfax has the highest total number of cases, with 9,482 to date, with 1,218 hospitalized and 331 deaths. Arlington has reported 1,897 cases with 368 hospitalized and 101 deaths. Alexandria has 1,754 cases with 175 hospitalized and 38 deaths. Loudoun County has 2,047 cases with 150 hospitalized and 52 deaths and Prince William County has 5,812 cases (including Manassas and Manassas City), with 512 hospitalized and 109 deaths. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, tallied in at 93,104 in the DMV on Tuesday morning. Maryland reported 47,152 cases, Virginia reported 37,727 and Washington, DC reported 8,225. The death toll has reached a total of 3,835, with 2,187 in Maryland, 1,208 in Virginia and 440 in DC. Northern Virginia accounted for a majority of the new cases reported over the weekend, with Fairfax County reporting 493 new cases, but the region’s leaders (representing the five jurisdictions, Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax County, Loudoun County and Prince William County) sent a letter to Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam on Monday requesting that the counties be included in the phase one reopening starting on Friday, May 29, as the rest of the state moves to phase two of reopening. The letter included an assessment from local health officials that the Northern Virginia region had met four out of the six criteria in reopening, including a 14-day decrease of new cases and hospitalizations, increased testing and hospital bed capacity. The region has not met the criteria of PPE requirements or contact tracing. It is expected that Gov. Ralph Northam will make an announcement prior to the official phase one of Northern Virginia before Friday, May 29, and what businesses will be included. (The Washington Post)

The second case of the pediatric inflammatory syndrome linked to COVID-19 was reported in Fairfax on Monday. Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in children has affected more than 100 children across the United States, baffling doctors and sending children to the hospital with everything from rashes to organ failure. The first case in the state was reported last week, also in Fairfax County. No additional details about the patient were released. (WTOP)

Arlington County is hosting free COVID-19 testing today, Tuesday, May 26. It will be at the Barcroft Sports and Fitness Center at 4200 South Four Mile Run Drive from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. No ID is required to get tested, and you do not need to show symptoms of COVID-19, have an appointment or a doctor’s note. Be aware that traffic congestion is expected in the area and locations may have road closures or “no parking” areas where towing will be enforced. (WTOP)

DC Mayor Muriel E. Bowser announced Monday that the city is “back on track” to reopen later this week after a spike in cases over the weekend. On Monday, the city once again saw a decline in the number of new cases, and Bowser said it marks the 12th consecutive day for a consistent drop in new cases and hospitalizations across the city, making the end of this week (as long as the downward trend continues) a full 14 days of consecutive downward cases, a milestone that Bowser cited as a requirement to begin to ease restrictions in the nation’s capital.
