The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across the DMV has surpassed 1,000, hitting 1,051 on Wednesday, with 424 cases in Maryland, 235 cases in the District and 391 cases in Virginia. WMATA has reported six staff members have tested positive (WTOP). Among DC’s cases reported Wednesday, an 8-week-old infant has tested positive for the virus, as well as an inmate at a DC jail. People who visited Murphy’s Irish Pub in Alexandria on March 10, March 14 and March 15 are being asked to self-quarantine due to a possible exposure to the virus. “On the evening of March 25, the Alexandria Health Department (AHD) was notified that a non-resident of Alexandria later confirmed to have the COVID-19 coronavirus spent time at Murphy’s Irish Pub (713 King Street).” (ALXNow)

A marine assigned to the service headquarters office at the Pentagon is the first person on the campus to have tested positive for COVID-19, with test results confirming on Tuesday, March 24. The marine officer has been isolated after contracting symptoms. As of Wednesday morning, DoD had reported 453 cases among service members, civilians, dependents and contractors, 227 of which are troops. (Military Times)

On Wednesday, March 25, Virginia Commonwealth University Health System announced that it is now administering an independently developed test for COVID-19 during a pilot program. The in-house test is aiming for same-day results, cutting down on wait times based on demand, and will be given priority to those who are strongly suspected to have the virus, or are currently hospitalized. Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, just outside of Richmond, is one of the fastest growing outbreaks in the region, and has a growing number of cases as its Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) dwindles in supply. Three former patients have died of the coronavirus since Tuesday, March 24, and more than a dozen more and staff members are currently infected. (The Washington Post)

Late Wednesday night, the Senate unanimously approved a $2 trillion emergency relief bill that cabinet members hope will bolster the economy after a downfall over the past two weeks. The bill “would send checks to more than 150 million American households, set up enormous loan programs for businesses large and small, pump billions of dollars into unemployment insurance programs, greatly boost spending on hospitals and much more.” The House of Representatives is expected to vote on Friday morning.
