Changes made in Virginia’s veto session; Amazon HQ2 already impacting Fairfax County

Northern Virginia’s daily dose of local and national news for Thursday, April 4.

Wednesday’s reconvened House session in Richmond, often referred to as the “veto session,” gave major changes to the state, including raising truck fees and diesel taxes statewide, adding gas taxes along Interstate 81 and blocking Gov. Northam’s measure on handheld cell phone use while driving. (WTOP)

Amazon’s move to Arlington is already affecting Fairfax County. There are concerns that HQ2 will take tech talent from companies based in the county, as well as concern over low numbers of candidates for tech positions in general. (Washington Business Journal)

An undercover investigation by the Humane Society of a Petland store in Fairfax found that the store was providing inadequate care for rabbits. The location has shuttered its doors. (The Washington Post)

On Tuesday, the Fairfax County Public Schools Board of Supervisors held a meeting to discuss the district’s use of seclusion and restraint for students with special needs. The district plans to reevaluate the school system’s policy. (Fox 5 DC)
