As of Friday, 17 people nationwide have been infected with a strain of salmonella that could be linked to pet hedgehogs. No one has died, but two people were hospitalized. In January, Fairfax County legalized household hedgehogs as pets, just a few days before the Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued a notice about the connection between salmonella and the animals.
