NoVA ranks high among healthiest communities; Cherry blossoms enter Stage 4

U.S. News and World Report‘s Healthiest Communities Rankings for 2019 listed several Northern Virginia communities, including Loudoun County, Alexandria, Arlington county and Fairfax County. (InsideNoVA)

The cherry blossoms in the NoVA and DC regions have officially reached Stage 4 of their blooming period, known as peduncle elongation. Pink buds are now visible on trees, but not yet fully bloomed. (NBC Washington)

The Coast Guard will now allow a 250-yard-wide lane for passing vessels near the Potomac River’s Maryland shore, even when the president is visiting Trump National Golf Club in Loudoun County. The Canoe Cruisers Association of Greater Washington, D.C. sued last year over a 2017 Coast Guard decision to shut down the river near the golf club when President Donald Trump is on the property. (Loudoun Times-Mirror)

Fairfax County has opened its third domestic violence shelter, specifically to serve the southern part of the county. Artemis House Region 1 has almost 30 beds and its exact location is kept confidential to protect victims. (WTOP)
