Delays anticipated for Arlington school project; Loudoun County breaks ground on firearms training center

Northern Virginia’s daily dose of local and national news for Monday, Feb. 11.

By Editorial February 11, 2019 at 8:30 am

Arlington County recently announced that the expansion of Dorothy Hamm Middle School may not be ready to open in September. For several months, school officials have been voicing concerns over the construction’s timetable. The project is costing taxpayers $39 million. (Inside NoVA)

A $25.9 million firearms training center is opening in Leesburg. The building is expected to be completed by spring 2020. Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman says the center will help deputies learn when it is, and when it isn’t, appropriate to use physical force as law enforcement officers. (Loudoun Times-Mirror)

Winter weather is impacting NoVA today as freezing rain and snow have fallen throughout the evening and early morning. Many federal offices and local schools are opening late or are closed today. (WTOP)

Virginia lawmakers are still debating how to handle the scandals surrounding the governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. Gov. Northam does not plan to step down, Lt. Gov. Fairfax denies all allegations of sexual assault and Attorney General Herring has not indicated that he will resign. (WTOP)
