Metro losing $400,000 a day during shutdown; Supermoon visible Sunday night

Because of the government shutdown, Metro reports that it is losing an estimated $400,000 a day because of decreased ridership. The transit agency says that federal employees are usually about 40 percent of its rush-hour riders, but that daily ridership is down 16 percent due to the shutdown.

After the wintry mix that is expected to come to the area this weekend, another natural event will occur on Sunday night, a full wolf supermoon total lunar eclipse. The eclipse is supposed to be visible throughout the entire region and will be at its peak from 10:34 p.m. to 1:51 a.m.

Variably priced parking spots could soon be coming to Arlington. Virginia is looking into having prices rise and fall in Crystal City and the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor depending on the amount of spaces available on a street, where the fewer the spots, the higher the price.
