Home sales in Northern Virginia rose 5.4 percent in December compared to the same time period in 2017, boosted by a 28 percent increase year-over-year in Arlington and Alexandria, per the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors. The impending arrival of Amazon’s HQ2 is believed to be a big driver of those numbers.

While Arlington County is still looking to legally change the name of Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 1) to match Alexandria’s recent change to Richmond Highway, Google Maps has already made the switch. As of Jan. 11, the virtual map identifies Arlington’s section of Route 1 as Richmond Highway.
