José Andrés opens relief kitchen for federal employees; Virginia committee approves $15 minimum wage

Chef José Andrés is continuing to assist federal employees that are impacted during the ongoing government shutdown, announcing that he is opening a relief kitchen in Washington, DC. The kitchen will be located on Pennsylvania Avenue NW, close to the White House.

A legislative committee passed a bill that would raise the minimum wage in Virginia to $15 per hour by 2021. The bill will now advance to the full Senate for a vote.

The Fairfax County Public Schools’ Superintendent, Scott Brabrand, is seeking an increase for the county’s 2020 budget to be used on instructional programs and to boost employee pay. Brabrand proposed a budget on Jan. 10, of $3 billion, a 4.1 percent increase over the previous year.

Actress Rose McGowan, who was arrested at Dulles Airport in 2017 after cocaine was found in her wallet, pleaded no contest to a reduced drug charge in a Loudoun County courthouse on Monday, Jan. 14. McGowan will avoid jail and pay a $2,500 fine.
