Outbreak of home burglaries in Fairfax County; Mobile ticketing options for buses in development

There has been a recent outbreak of home burglaries across Fairfax County, with 13 reported so far. Police are currently investigating, but no arrests have been made.

The Northern Virginia Transportation Commission is working on mobile ticketing options, possibly through an app. The proposed app would allow travelers to pay for rides on the PRTC and Loudoun County commuter buses, as well as the bus services in Arlington.

The federal government shutdown is expected to continue into 2019, as no vote is planned for Friday.

Public Safety Cadets, a national program run by law enforcement officers and designed for people ages 14-21, launched earlier this month. The goal of the group is to give teens who are interested in a career in law enforcement experience and education with law enforcement practices, as well as help them develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills.

Northern Virginia is under a flood watch from Friday until 1 a.m. on Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasts predict that the remainder of the weekend will be sunny with mild temperatures.
