More construction issues along Silver Line; Flood warnings for Thursday into Friday

More problems related to the concrete along the second phase of the Silver Line have been found. Cracks have been found on concrete panels at the rail yard being built near Dulles International Airport. Also, cranes not meeting standards needed to be replaced and a platform was being built using the wrong dimensions.

With heavy rains expected starting Thursday afternoon, a flood watch will be in effect from 7 p.m. Thursday to 6 p.m. on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

A judge has denied a lawsuit challenging Washington-Lee High School‘s plans to change its name to remove Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s name from the building.

There has been a recall of certain Wegmans products that contain cauliflower over concern that they might have been contaminated with E.Coli. No illnesses have been reported, but the recall took place at 98 Wegmans stores in Virginia, Maryland and four other states.

The Smithsonian Conservation and Biology Institute will start a new breeding and research program for the endangered whooping cranes at its Front Royal facility. According to the Smithsonian’s official announcement, there are currently fewer than 900 that exist anywhere on Earth.
