Fairfax Board Chair Bulova not seeking reelection; Snow a possibility for this weekend

Fairfax County Board Chair Sharon Bulova has announced that she won’t be seeking reelection next year, ending her 30-year career representing the county. Some of the milestones of Bulova’s time with the county included the creation of the Virginia Railway Express and the redevelopment of Tysons Corner.

The potential for snow this weekend is still present, though the most impact could be seen in Fredericksburg. For most areas, the forecast predicts about 30 percent chance of snow/snow flurries, with little to no accumulation.

Starting Dec. 15, the Virginia Department of Transportation has announced that the new Jones Branch Connector in Tysons will be partially open to traffic. The half-mile long roadway traverses Interstate 495 and connects Jones Branch Drive to Scotts Crossing Road and Route 123.

The new park in Old Town Alexandria’s waterfront area has been recommended to be named Waterfront Park by the City Council Naming Commission. The recommendation came after three months of consideration and some interesting/funnny suggestions (i.e. Eminent Domain). The final vote is expected for Dec. 15.

After being named the host for the 91st Academy Awards on Tuesday, comedian Kevin Hart has stepped down as host due to the controversy over past tweets by him expressing homophobic sentiments and slurs.
