The Arlington County Board, in a 3-2 vote, approved the expansion of Virginia Hospital Center by 101 beds. The plan will see the building of a seven-story outpatient building and a six-story parking garage. The bill had seen debate among the public over potential design issues.

With cold season upon us, the FDA has released new guidelines for treating children with cold-like symptoms. The agency said that children under 2 should not take over-the-counter cough medicine, while children under 18 shouldn’t take prescription cough syrup with codeine, as it could cause breathing problems.

Dr. Shriharsh Laxman Pole has plead guilty to using his Excel Medical Clinic in Woodbridge to illegally distribute more than 600,000 oxycodone pills. Pole’s medical license had previously been suspended by the Virginia Board of Medicine for improper prescription of opiates. He faces up to 20 years in prison.

12 acres of the historic Rogers Farm will be designated as part of the H-1 historic district after a vote by the Leesburg Town Council on Tuesday. The remaining 62 acres are set to be marked for development by Stanley Martin Homes.

A Fredericksburg property that was approved in 2005 will finally begin construction. The project will see the construction of 203 residential lots, at least 10 percent of which will be affordable housing.
