The $1.6 billion Mega Millions jackpot had a winner on Tuesday night, with a sole winning ticket purchased in South Carolina. The winning numbers were 5, 28, 62, 65 and 70, with the Mega Ball being 5. Two million dollar tickets (matching all numbers but the Mega Ball) were sold in Virginia and one in D.C.

Virginia did have a top winner in another lottery game. Falls Church resident Michael Kraemer won the $4 million top prize in the Virginia Lottery’s Hot Millions Multiplier game.

Lovettsville native and Marine veteran Rob Jones will be one of 70 U.S. athletes competing in the Invictus Games in Sydney, Australia, this week. Jones lost both of his legs in an I.E.D. explosion in Afghanistan. This is Jones first Invictus Games, though he previously won a bronze medal in rowing at the 2012 Paralympics in London.

Closing arguments have been made in the Ronald Williams Hamilton murder case, with the jury now determining sentencing. In September, Hamilton was convicted of the February 2016 murder of his wife and a Prince William County police officer. The jury must decide whether Hamilton will receive the death penalty or life in prison without parole.

According to Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld, there is no plan in the near future to expand Metro operating hours. Metro has been running on reduced hours since 2016 to do preventive maintenance work on tracks.
