Alexandria has approved a new “drug treatment court” as part of the city’s criminal justice system. How the program will work is that drug offenders must agree to all program terms, which allow them to plead guilty, stay out of jail and then get help with their addiction and check in regularly with their judge, probation officer and counselors. The goal is to start the program in 2019.

Arlington County Police are investigating a homicide that occurred in the Douglas Park neighborhood south of Columbia Pike on Thursday. According to police, a man was assaulted near Doctor’s Run Park and S. George Mason Drive. The victim later died of his injuries.

The skeletal remains found earlier this month in Sterling have been identified as a human skull, possibly from the early to mid-20th century. No other remains were found at the scene. There is no indication of foul play and no belief of any additional threat to the area.

A hearing is set for Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Metro headquarters for people to discuss plans that could see the end of free parking at Metro stations on the weekend and holidays, as well as fare increases for large events. If implemented, changes could take place as soon as January. The public can also fill out an online survey to the proposals.

Virginian’s will be able to begin enrolling for the expanded Medicaid program starting on Nov. 1. Up to 400,000 uninsured Virginians can be added to the state’s Medicaid rolls as part of this expansion, with coverage officially beginning on Jan. 1, 2019.
