NoVA officials seeking to recoup funds for road projects; Micron Technology receives state’s largest ever manufacturing investment

Elected officials from Northern Virginia are planning to ask the General Assembly in Richmond to revise the Metro funding deal in order to recoup tens of millions of dollars for road projects across the region. Officials say the money, which was diverted to Metro as part of the deal, is necessary to avoid delaying or killing projects to widen roads, upgrade intersections and other transportation improvements.

Micron Technology’s semiconductor plant in Manassas has announced a $3 billion expansion, which is expected to add 1,100 new jobs by 2030. Gov. Northam was on hand for the announcement, where he said that it was the largest manufacturing investment in the commonwealth’s modern history.

Cameron Elementary music teacher Ryan Pick is facing multiple charges for a sexual offense with a minor. No victims have been identified, but deputies are calling for more information from the public.

Arlington police are still searching for a suspect that was involved in an early morning fight in downtown Clarendon over the weekend. An altercation was reported to take place on the 1200 block of N. Hudson Street, where a victim was struck multiple times, causing lacerations. The police have not released a name or description of the suspect.

Memorial services for Sen. John McCain are planned for the D.C. area starting on Friday. Street closures will begin near the U.S. Capitol starting at 11 p.m. on Thursday. Sen. McCain will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda on Friday.

The Senate has confirmed Zachary Terwilliger as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Terwilliger and his office oversee federal court houses in Alexandria, Richmond, Newport News and Norfolk.
