Founders Hall opens in Alexandria as a spot to work and do yoga
Workspaces are popping up all over Northern Virginia, but Alexandria’s latest option, Founders Hall, is putting a focus on health. Founders Hall, at 106 N. Lee St., is a two-story space outfit in the latest aesthetic—wood bars and tables, glass walls and pops of color throughout—with a juice bar and yoga studio on site. South Block juicery and Vikriya Lab have space on the main level of the building along with a space for a pop-up retail shop. Workspaces consist of private offices, desk space, conference rooms and common lounge areas. And, in true Alexandria form, the building is dog-friendly. –Lynn Norusis
Apple looking to Northern Virginia for a second home
While everyone focuses on Amazon’s next steps for its HQ2, Apple has quietly been scouting locations throughout Northern Virginia for a campus for 20,000 employees according to The Washington Post. Apple is looking for 4 million square feet of space, a size that is nearly two-thirds the size of the Pentagon. The Post’s sources site Crystal City, Dulles and Scotts Run in Tysons as areas that were being proposed by Gov. Northam’s staff. –LN
Lansdowne Resort offers water adventures to the public and an outdoor cocktail bar
Lansdowne Resort is taking advantage of their 476 acres along the Potomac River to the public’s benefit. The resort has partnered with Fish and Explore to offer water activities like fishing and kayaking tours to both guests and the public. And for those who would rather take in the ambiance while sipping on a drink, they have also opened Fanny’s Garden, an outdoor cocktail restaurant and bar that is serving up five different cocktails, local wines and beers along with a locally sourced menu for eats. –Katherine Baisa
JBG Smith Properties betting on new HQ2s and push for housing
With Amazon and now Apple looking to the area for their next headquarters, JBG Smith Properties, a major residential developer in the area, has launched the Washington Housing Conservancy, a nonprofit that will focus on acquiring, developing and operating workforce housing. The goal is to have 2,000-3,000 affordable housing units in the region over the next decade. –LN
