Clarendon Alliance cancels Mardi Gras Ball and Jester Jaunt; State Senate approves bill allowing speed cameras in work zones

Due to the Wharf’s Mardi Gras parade and a Mardi Gras event at Union Market being held on Feb. 17 (the same day as the Clarendon Alliance’s festivities) the Clarendon Alliance has cancelled their Mardi Gras Ball and Jester Jaunt. The alliance’s parade will still take place, however.

A bill that would allow police officers to use handheld speed cameras while they are in or near a work zone has passed the Virginia Senate 22-18. These devices would allow police to photograph the license plates of drivers going more than 12 mph over the speed limit, sending the drivers a citation in the mail rather than having to pull them over.
