Talks of Washington-Lee HS rename could be delayed until December; Reston Hospital Center expansion has begun

In a Feb. 1 proposal, it was suggested that before discussing changing the name of Washington-Lee High School, the staff first focus on establishing criteria for changing a school’s name. Over summer, then, a committee would be established to come up with a list of potential names, which would be presented to the school board in the fall. All this could delay any name change decision until December 2018/January 2019.

The $72 million Reston Hospital Center expansion—which will add a patient tower, an intensive care unit and inpatient rehabilitation services—in now underway. The construction should wrap up in 2019.

Monday, an Arizona man plead guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud after acquiring over $500,000 by scamming around 250 senior magazine subscribers. One of Raheem Oliver’s victims was a 94-year-old Alexandria man. Oliver, whose sentencing will take place on June 22, could face a 20-year prison sentence.
