FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe of Ashburn steps down; House of Delegates to vote on school calendars

After working for the FBI for 22 years, FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, an Ashburn resident who planned to retire this spring, stepped down on Monday—effective immediately.

The Virginia House of Delegates will vote on whether area school boards should have the power to set their own academic calendars or if all schools should start before Labor Day, followed by a five-day Labor Day weekend. Presently, the “Kings Dominion law” of 1986 prevents the state’s schools from opening before Labor Day unless they have a waiver.

A 24-year-old man was shot in the arm and lower body in the early hours of Saturday, Jan. 28 in the Manassas Mall parking lot. The victim reportedly got into a verbal altercation with an unidentified man in Uptown Alley, and once the business closed, the two continued to argue outside.

Though the Potomac Nationals will remain at Woodbridge’s Pfitzner Stadium through their 2020 lease, the minor league baseball team is looking elsewhere for their next home, citing that the Prince William stadium will not be able to support the team long term.
