Gov. Terry McAuliffe has announced his plan to raise taxes on Northern Virginia real estate, hotel visits and wholesale gas purchases. Combined with the $85 million that Northern Virginia already contributes to transportation, this extra $65 million per year would make up $150 million of the $500 million that the state will set aside for Metro.

A fire in Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport’s underground electrical facility caused a power outage that lasted from Sunday at 1 p.m. into Monday’s early morning hours. Delta Air Lines boasted the biggest loss with approximately 1,200 cancelled flights.

John McCain, who is currently battling brain cancer, has decided to return home to Arizona with plans to return to the Washington, D.C. area sometime next month. During the last few days, McCain has been receiving treatment for a viral infection at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

During its final phase of renovations, Fairlington Park’s amphitheater will be replaced with a playground for 2-5 and 5-12-year-olds. The park’s renovations began back in 2010.
