Winter weather to arrive on Saturday; Fires scorch San Diego, Ventura, Los Angeles and other areas of California

Northern Virginia’s daily dose of local and national news for Friday, Dec. 8.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Saturday from midnight to 4 p.m. by the National Weather Service. While meteorologists don’t expect this to be more than a dusting or combination of snow and rain, the Virginia Department of Transportation has already begun pretreating roadways.

On Monday, the “Thomas Fire” in Ventura, California, began spreading across the state, destroying 430 buildings and spanning 180 square miles as of Friday morning. Thursday, another fire broke out, this one affecting the avocado trees and horse ranches in Fallbrook’s Rancho Monserate County Club area.

On Wednesday, Democrats filed an amended complaint to the lawsuit originally filed in Alexandria’s U.S. District Court on Nov. 21, this time asking that a federal judge order a new election in light of the mistakes made about district lines in the most recent Virginia House of Delegates race.

In an attempt to understand the complex scandal that was the investigation, firing and re-hiring of Purcellville’s Chief of Police Cynthia McAlister, the Purcellville Town Council voted to invest $80,000 on a new investigation that includes assistance from the Wilson Elser law firm and The Casey Group public relations firm.
