Although home inventory numbers have continued to increase year-over-year, so have the prices of many NoVA homes. In August, we not only saw one of the most expensive sales in the region, but also plenty of historic homes find new owners. According to Homes.com, these are the five most expensive houses sold in Northern Virginia this August.
$18.5 million: 6431 Georgetown Pk., McLean (picture)
The last time we wrote about this home, it had already been on the market for 696 days. Nearly 20 months later it is officially off the market. And it made a splash as one of the most expensive homes ever sold that doesn’t sit along the Potomac River. At 22,000 square feet, this new construction estate includes 10 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, and dozens of luxury amenities and design elements. It features a fireside library, dining room that seats 12 guests, Italian cabinetry, screening room, and a spa with a dry sauna just to name a few. Outside is a heated in-ground swimming pool, an outdoor entertainment space with a 200-inch TV, and a floor-to-ceiling waterfall.
$2.71 million: 1129 Delaplane Grade Rd., Upperville
Originally built in 1832, the Alston House has received a handful of renovations since the turn of the century. The main house expanded with an addition in 2002. The pool house, which is located on the property’s second lot, was built in 2006. Located on two acres, the five-bedroom property also includes mature trees, landscaped gardens, an in-ground pool, and a fish pond with a waterfall.
$2.35 million: 6139 Franklin Park Rd., McLean
Behind this 1912 white clapboard home awaits cozy and historic charms. At just over 5,000 square feet, the main house includes eight bedrooms and five full bathrooms highlighted by wood-burning fireplaces, hardwood floors, and skylights. $2.34 million: 2503 N. Jefferson St., Arlington

This Alexandria home was billed as an ideal for those who love to host. As you head inside, the kitchen with the long, centered island will make party prep a breeze as the screened-in porch provides solace on those hot summer days. Though the home was built in 1949, it has undergone two additions and one extensive remodel.
