7 NoVA Homes that Have Been on the Market for Over 600 Days

These properties include historic landmarks, equestrian facilities, and a handful of homes worth more than $20 million.

Over the last few years, it seems like almost every home that hits the market in Northern Virginia has been sold before the blink of an eye — but that’s not always the case. Of the 2,300 active homes on the market in NoVA through the end of November, 22.5 percent of those listings had been active for 100 days or longer, according to Bright MLS. Take a look through some of the active house listings throughout the region that have been for sale for nearly two years or more.

7500 Ironwood Ln., Warrenton

Days on the Market: 1,713

This historic estate has been around as long as the United States of America. Built in 1776, the 247-year-old estate is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register. Unlike many of the historic homes found across the region, this one is massive. The Georgian-style estate features 22 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms (13 full and three half-baths), and nearly 26,000 square feet on over 1,400 acres — so maybe it’s not ideal for your average NoVA family. The current listing price is $26.7 million.

1171 Chain Bridge Rd., McLean

Days on the Market: 1,460

This $24 million home includes eight bedrooms, 13 bathrooms (10 full and three half-baths), and 20,000 square feet. At first glance, the renderings showcase a dark, sleek, and modern interior design that contrasts the bright French Colonial exterior – making it feel like this home would be perfect for a James Bond villain or a resident in the capitol of Panem. The in-ground pool, spa suite, and gold accents only add to the elegance of this never-before-owned home.

900 N. Taylor St., Apt. 808, Arlington

Days on the Market: 971

An Arlington condo for under $100,000 seems like a steal. There are a few possible reasons this property has been on the market for nearly three years. First off, this one-bedroom, one-bath condo is a part of a 55-plus community. Secondly, it’s only 634 square feet. Finally, the monthly fees – $3,519 for amenities and a $240 condo fee – are higher than the average monthly rent in Arlington, according to Apartments.com.

21281 Belle Grey Ln., Upperville

Days on the Market: 938

If you’re looking for your own private equestrian facility, this is the home for you. With over 122 acres, this property comes with a 20-stall main barn, eight-stall show barn, indoor arena, outdoor arena, and an exercise track for horses. Not only does it include a main three-bedroom, three-bathroom house for the owner, but it also has five additional homes for a manager and staff. The current list price is $7.5 million.

7022 Green Oak Dr., McLean

Days on the Market: 836

Designed by Robert Wilson Mobley, this 2003 custom-built estate is situated along the Potomac River near Scotts Run. The five-level home combines sophistication with serenity. Inside find luxe amenities, like two elevators, a secluded library, a 1,000-bottle wine cellar, and an indoor Endless Pool. Outside, take in the surrounding nature on the roof-level sitting area and outdoor observation deck or take advantage of the property’s river access. Listed for $3,999,999, the move-in ready home comes with the furniture, fixtures, and equipment upon request.

6431 Georgetown Pk., McLean

Days on the Market: 696

Located in the Langley Farms neighborhood, this McLean mega-mansion was inspired by the architecture of 18th-century France. The 22,000-square-foot estate features custom crystal chandeliers, Italian cabinetry, and floor-to-ceiling mirrors inspired by the Palace of Versailles. That’s nowhere near all the amenities. Unlike other new construction homes, this mansion comes with a private salon, fitness center, jogging path, a spa with a massage room, and a 200-inch outdoor television. Separate guest or staff quarters are above the 10-space garage. It is currently listed for $25 million.

307 Amelia St., Fredericksburg

Days on the Market: 609

Built in 1834, this Fredericksburg home, known as Smithsonia, looks like a home straight out of a movie. The pristine yard is full of intricate details, like the iron handrails, all-brick patio, and sunroom. Inside, you’ll find a mixture of historic and modern design trends, from the exposed beams to the brand new second kitchen on the main floor. The 189-year-old home is currently listed for $3,695,000.
