In downtown Reston, adjacent to the Silver Line Metro Station, a $1.4 billion, mixed-use district promises to combine city excitement with suburban living. Right now, leasing has begun in the residential part of the development, The Edmund, a large, modern-meets-70s-inspired apartment complex with dedicated entertainment and community rooms where residents can meet and hang out with each other and their dogs.
The Edmund, which has bright one- to three-bedroom rental units with light wood and tile kitchen and baths, has amenities including a private entrance to Wegmans, a six-floor parking garage that allows residents to park on the same floor they live on, a test kitchen where holiday dinners can be booked and cooked, maker spaces, co-working zones, indoor and outdoor fitness areas, and a number of lounge-style community rooms where residents can have karaoke parties, screen movies, and plan happy hours.
The Wegmans, which is an 80,000 foot, more-boutique version of the much-larger, standard-sized gourmet grocer, is the major draw to the Halley Rise district. The district itself promises to bring 12,000 people to the area: 10,000 for work and 2,000 as residential, with additional retail components that are in development as the project continues to expand. Also in development are three parks which will anchor three corners of the project.
The entire idea of Halley Rise, along with the aesthetic of The Edmund, seems perfect for the target market, being young professionals in their 30s working in the region’s growing tech sector. It’s also a great concept for dog lovers, with its own dog spa and dog park that looks like a well-manicured mini golf course where dogs can get to know one another in a landscaped format. It also works for biking enthusiasts, located near the Reston Trail, with its own luxury bike room where residents can store and maintain their bikes in a gallery/expo-type setting.
With sustainability plans that are still in development, Halley Rise promises to let residents live responsibly with respect to the environment as they build communities within. With a heated pool that sits outside one of the many lounges in an outdoor courtyard below four exterior walls of the apartment complex, summer 2022 promises this to be the perfect place for people watching—and for people who enjoy people watching them.
For the young, single, 30-something, Halley Rise promises a capsule lifestyle for NoVA newcomers, the WFH set and anyone else who would prefer not to travel for food, drink, and friends after they finish for the day.
