Working out can be painful, but the good news is that you don’t always have to go it alone. These Northern Virginia organizations provide ways to get healthy while also forging new friendships.
Washington Women Outdoors
Founded in 1979, Washington Women Outdoors was created on the premise of providing a unique opportunity for women to become empowered through both nature and one another. While based out of Washington, D.C., WWO has members from Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and North Carolina and currently has 110 members ranging from 20-year-olds to women in their 70s. WWO is made up a seven-person board of directors and has about 30 leaders. They participate in activities such as hiking, water sports, skiing, camping, backpacking and pretty much anything you can do outdoors.
Art of Living
Guided meditation, breathing techniques and practical wisdom are just three of the things Art of Living provides. With over 800 members of a wide demographic, Art of Living expands across NoVA. They offer different types of courses, including Sahaj Samadhi Meditation and an Alexandria Walking Group, DC Adventurers, Active Friends Travel with Friends of the World, DC Backpackers, Mid Atlantic Hiking Group, Live Imagining and I Meditated DC. These groups use different approaches into healthy lifestyles, suiting a variety of needs for all kinds of people.
