A distillery tour is a great way to get out of the house, mask up and learn something. But Filibuster Distillery in Maurertown has sweetened the deal, giving all the more reason for Northern Virginians to make the drive. In honor of Virginia Spirits Month, visitors get a complimentary cocktail when they visit the distillery. Best of all, it’s socially distanced, with only 15 outdoor seats at a time.
Filibuster reopened its doors to the public in June, allowing guests to reserve tours on the distillery’s website. For those not ready to venture out just yet, they also began offering curbside pickup of their drinks that include Bourbon, rye and gin, all made by master distiller Sid Dilawri. Dilawri’s drinks go beyond the ordinary with limited releases such as gin that’s infused with rose petals. There’s also the award-winning Single Estate Bourbon, which is made from the products of one farm in one barrel. It’s won prizes including double gold at this year’s World Spirits Competition.
It’s possible to try several drinks in a flight at the tasting room, but for those who prefer a cocktail, options include drinks like A Thyme to Chill, which features dual cask gin, sweet vermouth, amaro, chocolate bitters and orange bitters. The Masala Manhattan combines dual cask rye whiskey, sweet vermouth and cardamom bitters. The distillery is open to visitors Thursday through Monday. There are few better ways to celebrate Virginia Spirits Month than with a free cocktail in its place of origin. //80 Maurertown Mill Road, Maurertown
