Popular DC Chinese-Korean Joint Will Open First NoVA Location

CHIKO is a hip and approachable take on Asian fusion with a sense of flair.

By Editorial November 6, 2021 at 10:07 am

CHIKO is a Chinese-Korean not-quite-fast-casual concept that already has four locations in the DMV. Finally, they’ve arrived at that final letter, opening its first Virginia location on November 10.

CHIKO’s hip but accessible dishes range from clever to almost-snarky takes on crowd-pleasers: their orange-ish chicken comes with both crispy garlic and candied mandarins, while the soy-glazed brisket comes with a soy-brined soft egg and furikake butter. It’s all a little more chef-y than the phrase “fast casual” might lead you to expect (CHIKO chef Scott Drewno pushes back on the term). Prices range from $9 to $18.

The NoVA location will open in the Shirlington neighborhood of Arlington. Drewno says the location was chosen as a neighborhood where their concept could join a vibrant, walkable community.

For Shirlington, Drewno and team have crafted two unique menu items: a roast pork fried rice–born out of Drewno’s experiments in new roasting techniques–and a blueberry and kaffir lime custard. Otherwise, diners can expect a similar first-come-first-serve setup and menu to other locations.

The restaurant will start with a 5 p.m., dinner-only soft opening. Delivery, lunch, and a dim sum brunch will roll out as the restaurant gets its footing.
