Starting next Friday, Hunter’s Head Tavern in Upperville will offer meals to go, catering to numerous customer requests that the restaurant offer its certified organic and certified humane foods pre-made for pick up.
Sheree McDowell, food and beverage director for Ayrshire Farm Management LLC, which owns Hunter’s Head, says the new dishes are “a good way if you want a wholesome meal on a weeknight and don’t want to drive or go into the whole three ring circus cooking can be. If you have to eat convenience food, it should be something good.”
The to-go meals are frozen and priced between $8-$12 and include bangers and mash, chicken-fried steak and Guinness beef stew made with certified organic, heritage breed and certified humane beef simmered in Guinness beer and white wine and topped with pie dough pastry.
All meat comes from Upperville’s Ayrshire Farm. The beef is dry-aged directly on the farm, and everything is processed through the farm’s USDA-certified wholesale butchery located on the property. The company’s retail butchery and farm market, Home Farm Store in Middleburg, will also sell the to-go meals in addition to the beer, wine, old-fashioned vintage soda, rotisserie chickens and salads usually found in the store. / Home Farm Store; 1 E.
