Gearharts Fine Chocolates, based in Charlottesville, created a special chocolate for the State Department luncheon honoring French President Francois Hollande earlier this week. It was made with Valrhona chocolate from France, Virginia fig jam and Bordeaux wine from Chateau Carbonnieux, “one of Thomas Jefferson‘s favorite wineries he visited in 1787 when he served as Minister to France,” states the press release. While this was a limited edition (disclosure: Gearharts sent a sample to the office and it was delicious), the brand sells a similar chocolate: Pod and Vine, created with Barboursville Vineyards Cabernet Franc and plum preserves.
