This November marks the launch of a brand-new tradition in the D.C. area. FEDSgiving, a free community feast, was created to honor current and former federal employees and their families.
The inaugural celebration will take place Sunday, November 16, from noon to 4 p.m. It will be held at the Lyon Park Community Center in Arlington. Registration is required.
The event is founded by Kristina Tanasichuk, CEO of the Government Technology & Services Coalition and executive editor of Homeland Security Today. She says FEDSgiving is more than just a meal. It’s a heartfelt gesture of appreciation for the people who keep the federal government running every day.
“It will be a full nod-to-Thanksgiving feast,” says Tanasichuk. She says guests will be served turkey, ham, an array of side dishes and indulgent desserts.
The family-friendly event also features crafts, a bouncy house, cider station, and face painting for kids. Adults can enjoy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails while relaxing with colleagues, friends, and family.
Food will be sourced from Wegmans, Costco, Epic Smokehouse in Arlington and other local businesses. Organizations including Peraton, Bridge Phase, and Honor Guardians are sponsoring portions of the event.
Tanasichuk says she is still seeking additional support to cover costs. “We just wanted to do a collective thank-you,” she says.
