These 5 New York–Based Restaurants Have Recently Expanded to Northern Virginia

These restaurants and cafés have migrated south to give you a taste of the big city.

You no longer have to hop on a train if you’re craving some of your favorite New York foods. Several restaurants based in the Big Apple have recently established a Northern Virginia presence.

Izakaya Nana

This Chantilly spot is the second location of the Japanese restaurant from Flushing, Queens. Admire the authentic Japanese lanterns and other flourishes in the colorful décor and sit down for sushi, sake, grilled meats, and dishes like a mentaiko cream udon bowl and wagyu foie gras uni. 13882 Metrotech Dr., Chantilly

Xi’an Famous Foods

Anthony Bourdain visited this humble Chinese food stall in Queens — which specializes in Shaanxi cuisine — and raved about the spicy cumin lamb hand-ripped noodles and cumin lamb burger. These signature dishes and more are on the menu at Xi’an’s new Alexandria location — one of its first outside of NYC. It operates out of the takeout-only food hall Four Mile Food Co. 1033 W. Glebe Rd., Alexandria

Nutritious eats are on the menu for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch at this casual Clarendon spot — the chain’s first expansion out of the New York metro area. Customizable market plates feature as many as 21 seasonal rotating veggie options. In addition to salads and bowls galore, the impressive menu does have some carbs, including apple pie, challah French toast, and a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich, plus cocktails and mocktails. 2800 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington

Wonder Food Hall

Can’t decide what to eat? This fast-growing combination food hall and delivery platform partners with celebrity chefs to give you dozens of cuisines and dishes to choose from, for delivery, takeout, or dine-in. Opened in July, the Rosslyn location has more than 20 vendors, including Streetbird by Marcus Samuelsson, Bobby Flay Steak, and Yasas by Michael Symon. You can also mix and match from the vendors to try dishes from multiple chefs at once. 1771 N. Pierce St., Unit 100, Rosslyn

This beloved New York–based French bakery‑café brand opened its first Virginia location in the Mosaic District in June (in the former Oath Pizza space). Get brunch or coffee at the pretty sunlit café —which is decorated with vintage accents and floral décor — before a day of shopping. Oprah Winfrey featured the nutty chocolate chip cookie on her 2017 list of “Favorite Things,” and the savory dishes of smashed avocado tartine, breakfast bowls, and eggs ratatouille also impress. 2920 District Ave., Ste. 150, Fairfax
