Chef Jarad Slipp is a semifinalist for the 35th annual James Beard Awards for his work as chef at Tremolo in Middleburg, the foundation announced Wednesday.
Slipp, who owns the restaurant in downtown Middleburg, is nominated in the Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic category for the prestigious awards. Tremolo is an informal spot with a relaxed vibe, a great wine list, and a menu labeled “snacks,” featuring small plates that range from house-fried potato chips with four-onion dip to slices of hanger steak sunken into a line of piquant sauce au poivre.
The former estate director of the acclaimed RdV Vineyards in Delaplane, Slipp is a master sommelier. He also owns Knead Wine, a pizzeria and wine shop with one location just down the street from Tremolo in Middleburg and another in Purcellville.
The only other Virginia restaurant to receive a semifinalist nomination is Maude & the Bear in Staunton. It’s a nominee in the Best New Restaurant category. There, chef Ian Boden offers a bar menu as well as four- and seven-course meals.
Final nominees will be announced on April 2. Winners will be announced at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony on June 16. The awards recognize excellence across the culinary and food media industries.
