Scorpion’s Restaurant, Bar & Grill Slated for January Opening

Look forward to Central American food in downtown Herndon.

By Dawn Klavon November 15, 2024 at 10:45 am

This January, a new Central American restaurant, Scorpion’s Restaurant, Bar & Grill, is coming to downtown Herndon. The eatery will be located at 688 Spring St., right across the street from Jimmy’s Old Town Tavern. The space was previously a martial arts studio.

“We chose Herndon because we have lived in Herndon for about 17 years now,” says Fernanda Alvarenga, daughter of Scorpion’s owners Fanny Aguilar and Wilfredo Alvarenga. “It’s by far one of the most beautiful cities in the DMV.”

Signature dishes planned on the menu include pollo con tajadas, pastelitos, fajitas, and housemade soups. Alvarenga says the sit-down restaurant will open at 9 a.m. for breakfast and stay open until 10 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends.

The new venture will leverage the owners’ culinary backgrounds. Both hail from Honduras and have worked in the restaurant industry for many years, Alvarenga says, noting her mother has been a waitress for about 15 years. Both her parents have managed other restaurants together and decided to take on the adventure of becoming restaurant owners.
