Visit Barking Barley, Fredericksburg’s First Dog Park and Tap House

The new venue provides a shared space for dogs, their owners, and foodies to connect.

Dog parents know it’s never easy leaving a four-legged friend at home. Now, you can let your pup join in on the fun at Barking Barley, Fredericksburg’s first dog park and tap house.

The business officially opened its doors in December 2025. But the idea for Barking Barley came to co-owner Dan Craddock around 2017. After visiting The Barrel in Charleston, South Carolina, a beach bar with a semi-fenced area, he knew he wanted to bring the concept to Fredericksburg.

Once the location on Olde William Street was available for lease, Craddock spent two and a half years transforming an abandoned building into the dog park and tap house.

Pup Perfect

“Fredericksburg is a dog town,” says Craddock. “I think it’s one of the most friendly dog towns in this entire region. And so much so, in fact, that we actually have tourists that will come and bring their dog for the day. … There’s not really that many spots [where you can get food with your dog] that are available in the downtown area. So it just made sense that this is a business that I wanted to gift to the city of Fredericksburg, because I think it adds such a wonderful opportunity for people to come together and enjoy themselves and play with their dogs.”

Barking Barley features a 6,000-square-foot dog park that is designated for off-leash play. And, don’t expect a bare fenced-in area either. The park includes playgrounds specifically made for dogs. There’s an endless supply of tennis balls plus a splash ground water feature for hot summer days.

Food and Drink

Barking Barley’s tap house is open to both owners and dogs (and customers without dogs). Owners can also enjoy the tap house fare without leaving the outdoor seating area. Mobile order is available for those who are visiting with their dogs, with a special food corral and service window.

The drink menu features a rotating list of handcrafted Virginia beers, ciders, and artisan sodas. For food, hot dogs are the main course. The tap house serves eight different signature hot dogs. The Stella is topped with salt and vinegar chips and nacho cheese. The Walker is topped with brown mustard, sauerkraut, and pickled onions. A build-your-own option — aka The Mutt — and plain hot dogs (The Pup) are also available.

Barking Barley’s tap house also hosts a variety of special events. On Weiner Wednesday you can get a hot dog and beer for $10. Trivia nights are held on Thursdays, and the venue plans to eventually add a bingo night to the roundup.

The dog park bar offers monthly and annual memberships. A monthly membership is $35 per dog and $15 per additional dog. It includes bark passes for the month and discounts on the retail store and food and drink purchases. Annual membership is $350 per dog and $125 per additional dog. It includes the same benefits as the monthly packing in addition to a pack merch member kit, four “fur buddy” day passes per year, and access to special VIP events (like pet portrait nights).

Day passes are also available to purchase onsite for $10. All dogs visiting the dog park need to be spayed or neutered; current on all vaccinations, including distemper and rabies; and at least four months old.

The dog park is open on Wednesday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from noon to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. 1515 Olde William St., Fredericksburg
