Hot Dog! Here Are the Most Popular Dog Names in Virginia

Plus, see the hottest dog names nationwide.

Is your pup named Bella? How about Luna or Max? If so, your dog has one of the most popular dog names in the state.

U.S. News and World Report has updated its list of the most popular dog names. Bella tops the list both in Virginia and nationwide. Same goes for Luna in the No. 2 spot and Max at No. 3

The ranking notes that Bella and Luna may reflect multilingual households because “luna” means moon and “bella” means beautiful or pretty in both Italian and Spanish.

Nationally, Coco ranks No. 4 and Daisy at No. 5. Milo is the sixth most popular, followed by Buddy (No. 7), Lucy (No. 8), Charlie (No. 9), and Lola (No. 10).

This is the first time Coco has appeared as a top five name since 2023. “Coco is a popular name for poodles in media, from the fluffy giant poodle who first appeared on The Donna Reed Show in 1961 to the pint-sized pink poodle in the on-air children’s animated series Bluey,” according to U.S. News.

A few states’ most popular dog names were not in the top 100. They include the No. 1 names in Hawaii (Koa) and Montana (Barron). Wyoming’s No. 2 and No. 3 names (Sassy and Latte) were also not in the top 100.
