On Oct. 5 from 3-11 p.m., Alexandria’s Port City Brewing Company and Lost Dog Café will once again partner to raise awareness for pet adoption. Although this isn’t their first collaboration, this year’s event differs from those they’ve previously hosted. In the past they held takeovers and restaurant-level events with Port City as brewery/retail partners. This collaboration takes it a step further.

This year, Port City Brewing will present the exclusive Lost Dog Rescue Ale, which will be available for first purchase during the fundraiser at Lost Dog Café, then at the Port City tasting room and Lost Dog Cafe locations after the event. The brew will also make an appearance at a series of adoption fairs during October. Once they run out, Port City Brewing and Lost Dog Café will decide if it warrants a comeback.

“By coming together with Port City to brew a beer to benefit the Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation, we hope to bring awareness to the Rescue and our place in helping to fund and support them in their continued efforts to save animals” says Matthew Sisk, Lost Dog Café owner. “The proceeds from the sale of our collaboration beer will help the LDCRF continue its mission.”

Aside from the Lost Dog Ale, other IPAs featuring flavors that Port City Brewing has never before offered customers will be available. “There’s a big citrus and tropical fruit character from the new-school American hops used: Mosaic, Amarillo, Citra and Pekko,” says Chris Van Orden, manager of marketing and beer strategy at Port City Brewing. “We dry-hopped the beer using our patented Hopzooka, which helps to retain the freshest hop flavors and aromas.”

Orden says that both those who are casual beer drinkers and those who appreciate refreshing fruit will enjoy the flavors they have created exclusively for this event.

The free event will take place Oct. 5 from 3-11 p.m. at Lost Dog Café’s Alexandria location, 808 N. Henry St., Alexandria. Proceeds from beer sales will benefit the Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation.
